About
Welcome to Happenchance, a community for creative people.
Whether you’re a musician, writer, painter, programmer, publisher, or pornographer, Happenchance strives to bring you useful stuff on a regular basis. Happenchance features articles on creativity, writing, chance, motivation, music, travel, entrepreneurship, personal finance, and more, all (hopefully) with a dose of humor.
Some things happen by chance, absolutely freakish. We’re born with a sour disposition, the people we’re with make bad decisions, we find a sack of unmarked hundred dollar bills, a piano falls from the sky, whatever. Some things are beyond our control, but other things aren’t. I believe by embracing chance we can make the most of what we have.
Happenchance.
Make it happen.

Salutations! I’m Seth M Baker, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Ten years ago when I started university I had no idea what I wanted to do. At the time, tech was booming and I thought I’d get in on it. Dumbass eighteen year-old self said I said ‘hey, I’ll study engineering and computers…good money in them newfangled machines, and even a hillbilly can get a good job.’ Fortunately for me, I got drunk, forgot about a calculus test, failed miserably, and somehow ended up an English major.
I don’t think this is all that uncommon.
After school I learned two things: nobody hires English majors and there aren’t any jobs in Appalachia anyway, so I decided to see the world. I’ve never looked back.
First I hiked about 800 miles on the Appalachian Trail then, after working for the railroad in Texas (and causing a minor ecological disaster in Cincinnati), I used the money I had saved on the railroad to visit Europe. When my money ran out (Europe is expensive!), I went back to my hometown, got another soul-crushing job, saved some money, took my girlfriend to Mexico, and came back with a fiance.
Afterward spent some time working for a book publisher and dabbled in entrepreneurship. A few months later my fiance and I married and somehow I convinced her to move to Seoul, South Korea with me.
And here we are.
In a way, chance brought me to this point, but I’ve been making things happen. Since the turn of the century, I’ve been entertaining myself with song and fiction writing. I’ve written a couple albums worth of material, mostly unrecorded, about twenty short stories as well as novel drafts. These are hobbies I love. Soon these projects will be ready to share with the world, but until then, the act of creating them is enough for me. Every act of creation is an adventure, and each adventure is just one part of my journey.
Happenchance is my little way of sharing this journey with the world.
