I often think back on jobs I’ve had with plenty of “down time” and wish I’d been blogging back then! I don’t know if I’d go out of my way to land one of these jobs, but this post sure explains how to make good use of time while (not) working. I spent many years working at a video store and did a stint at a movie theater too. Not as much down time as you might think in those gigs…

Oh man…I’m so tempted to do NaNo. I *think* I could handle it…but I’m right smack in the middle of a first draft right now, and I don’t want to start a new one.

Surprisingly, it doesn’t take all that much time, make 40 min to an hour a day. Last year, I was still doing a lot of other stuff. Once I decided to edit later, I cut my writing time almost in half.

I would absolutely do this if I had the time.

Some of the issues you mentioned above often plague me, such as planning and editing too much. It really bogs down the work. This is why I can only write short stories. Every time I try to write a novel, it becomes a short story.

I’m with you on the nicknames. A working title is better than no title. For longer works, I think the best title eventually reveals itself.

I completely agree! If only I could come up with the title for what I’m working on now… For the time being I’ve got a nickname for it, and even that has helped keep my focus
